Air Astana Places Order for Up to 15 Boeing 787-9 Aircraft

Kazakhstan’s flag carrier Air Astana has finalized an order agreement with Boeing for 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. According to the announcement, the airline has placed an order for up to 15 Boeing 787-9s as part of its strategy to expand and modernize its widebody fleet.
The order had previously been announced as a commitment in November 2025. The agreement marks the largest single-type aircraft purchase in Air Astana’s history. In addition, three Boeing 787-9 aircraft scheduled for delivery through leasing companies are expected to join the fleet, bringing the airline’s total 787-9 fleet to 18 aircraft.
Air Astana is expected to receive its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner next year. The airline’s medium-term plans also include launching direct flights between Kazakhstan and the United States.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Canliel, currently serving as Chief Financial Officer of Air Astana, will assume the role of CEO of Air Astana Group as of April 1.
